One service. One email address.
A separate email address for each service makes incoming mail easier to trace: a shopping account, a newsletter, a software subscription. The inbox remains one place, while the address tells a story about where a message came from.
Keep the source in the address
Give each signup an address you can associate with that service. When an unrelated sender starts using it, you have a useful signal about where the address may have travelled. It is a clue to investigate, not proof that a particular company sold your data.
Organize at the point of arrival
Use recipient rules to group messages into folders or labels. Keep invoices, security notices, newsletters, and personal conversations separate. An address can describe the source while a label describes what you need to do.
Keep recovery separate
Use a carefully protected recovery address for important accounts. Before retiring an alias, update the account that depends on it and confirm that recovery still works.
